Ark Social Skills Training

We are excited to announce the commencement of Ark’s Social Skills Training programs!

Two of our experienced staff trained with Dr Elizabeth Laugeson to deliver the program in Perth. The Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills was developed at UCLA by Dr Laugeson, and is a world leading, evidence based social skills training program which focuses on enhancing real world skills for adolescents and young adults who experience social challenges.

Where did this program come from?

We were inspired to provide our staff with the skills to deliver this program after watching Dr Laugeson’s program on the hit show Love on the Spectrum which can be viewed on ABC or Netflix. Many of our clients who also watched this show identified this type of program as something they would love the opportunity for their loved ones to participate in. We have included the link to a snippet of Love on the Spectrum here:

How will the program run and who is it for?

The program will be delivered in module format. There are two sets of Foundational Modules which must be completed before participating in other standalone modules. The modules available are below, please indicate which modules will be of most benefit to you.

During each session, participants are taught important social skills and are given the opportunity to practice these skills and is suitable for adolescents and young adults with autism spectrum, ADHD, anxiety, depression and other socio-emotional challenges. Two programs are available: adolescents and young adults.

Both participant and social coach (i.e., parent, family member, support worker, mentor, etc) will attend a 2-hour session. These classes will run concurrently in separate rooms. Social coaches are taught how to assist young adults in making and keeping friends by providing feedback during socialisation homework assignments. Regular attendance is imperative and social coach participation is required.

What if I don’t have a social coach?

If you do not have a social coach available, please let Ark know and we may be able to arrange one for you at an additional cost (pending a matching process and availability).

Enrolment is limited. Groups are a minimum of 6 and maximum of 8 for each program. This is to ensure all participants are receiving appropriate support and coaching throughout the workshop. Participants are allocated to groups of similar age, interests, etc to maximise on social skills building.

Please note that we do not launch the program until appropriate groups are established

We are currently taking expressions of interest for our programs – if you are interested please complete the form below and we will get back to you with more information.
